Spain: Seals and edge protectors from our in-house production

As a result of its continuous development, EMKA has become a specialist in the extrusion of rubber and plastic profiles. At the production site in Arnedo, 85 employees are now engaged in the production of seals and edge protectors made of EPDM, NBR, TPE and PVC. Every year, they process 45 tonnes of compound into more than 18 million metres of sealing and edge protection profiles. A total of seven modern production lines covering approx. 18,000 m2 and measure up to 90 m long, are available for this purpose.

Currently, our product range includes more than 1,500 sealing and edge protection profiles, which are available in EPDM, NBR, TPE-V, and PVC materials. They are mainly used in the industrial, railway and air-conditioning sectors. The customer can flexibly order features such as colour, surface coating (sliding polymer), strain relief (thread), assembly aid (adhesive tape), and extra strong clamping (metal insert). With the use of different manufacturing processes such as UHF and salt baths, production can be customised to meet the specific needs of the customer.

EMKA’s in-house tool shop manufactures extruder dies, including those for customer-specific profiles. The certified factory (ISO 9001, IATF 16949) produces, among other things, elastomer profiles according to fire protection (EN 45545-2) and hygiene requirements (VDI 6022). Within the production process, additional “features” (bonded coating, flocking) can be applied. Subsequently, the profiles are then either rolled up or processed into fixed lengths. Additionally, direct further processing into rings or frames on site is also a standard process at EMKA. Furthermore, various joining processes such as PE welding and EPDM vulcanisation as well as injection moulding are used.

As a result of expanding this production area, EMKA has been able to offer all important construction elements for industrial enclosure construction, i.e. seals in addition to closures and hinges, from a single source since 2009/2010. The EMKA experts analyse, advise, and create individual designs for the customers. Toolmaking integrated into the prototype process ensures series-quality prototypes in a short delivery time.
