Bargain prices thanks to the hybrid design

In other words, a customer-specific order can be turned into a series product at a highly attractive price. As part of a price-sensitive project, EMKA developed the idea of a hybrid compression latch and immediately put this concept into practice. The result is a stainless-steel closure with an aluminium housing, which can be used across all industries due to its high weather resistance.

NEW COMPRESSION LATCH WITH ALUMINIUM HOUSING

The hybrid design is not only in demand in the automotive sector, as the latest EMKA development shows. What differentiates this hybrid compression latch differs from the conventional version, in particular, is its housing, which is made of aluminium. All other components are identical and made of stainless steel, hence the designation “hybrid”. Due to its compact design and high weather resistance, this locking mechanism solution can be used in many areas, e.g. in wind power plants, tunnel construction, traffic facilities, and the railway sector. The compression latch uses the same hole pattern as the 1000 models. The latch is corrosion-resistant and features excellent shock and vibration resistance. Last but not least, it is fireproof compliant with DIN EN 45545-3 E20.

Thorsten Kuhnke, Head of Design Department, Development & Innovation at EMKA, explains: “With the hybrid compression latch we can offer an inexpensive alternative to an all stainless-steel product – also for areas with fire protection requirements E20 or E15. The weight saving of up to 30% resulting from the hybrid design can be particularly advantageous for applications in the transport sector”.

The areas of application of the hybrid compression latch and comparable stainless-steel variants are identical. Where the emphasis is on shock and vibration resistance as well as compression at the closure point, the hybrid compression latch can be used without restrictions.
