Twist-clamp closure as a system: one handle, multiple locking

Users of twist-clamp closures know: As soon as the door or fl ap is to be closed at several closing points, several manual operations are necessary when closing it. With the new adaptive EMKA turn-clamp-lock system this usually tedious procedure is a thing of the past. EMKA has significantly increased the closing comfort by means of an innovative multipoint locking system in modular format – and this with variable positioning of the individual locking points as well as the selection of the closing means according to the requirements, e.g. swivel handle, lever handle or sash lock.

Easier closing of control cabinets and flaps

Users are familiar with this situation: in order to close a door on the control cabinet with the appropriate sealing pressure, additional physical exertion – by hands, knees and/or feet – is often required. The EMKA engineers therefore aimed to develop a convenient locking system for cabinet doors which, on the one hand, locks securely at several points by actuating a single handle or sash lock and, on the other hand, makes additional physical effort unnecessary.

EMKA has developed such a twist-and-tension lock system with multi-­point locking in a flexibly adaptable arrangement. In this form, which is unique on the market, all locking points are connected with only one continuous rod. A suitable rod guide was developed as well as a 90-degree corner deflection which allows additional locking points in the horizontal plane.

 

Significantly higher compression path

The new turn-clamp-lock system from EMKA consists of proven components such as lock, connecting rod, rod drive, optional roller tongue and ramp as well as newly developed components such as locking point with turn-clamp function, corner deflection and rod guide. The locking system offers a large variety of combinations which, depending on the application, provides the optimum solution in the field of multiple locking systems.

The system-related compression path, which is usually 6 to 7 mm, can be increased to up to 18 mm by means of a roller tongue and ramp. The EMKA engineers have also considered the protection of the material: The roller tongue made of plastic allows the cabinet door to be closed in a way that is gentle on the paint and more gentle and reduces the closing force. Proven materials such as zinc die-cast, steel and glass fibre reinforced plastics offer an optimal material mix – also from an economic point of view. The closing shaft is flexibly designed and, thanks to its numerous variants within the extensive EMKA program, can be adapted almost at will, thus providing full flexibility in the area of door thicknesses. If required, a security sash lock can also be installed, so that the range of applications of the new locking system is even wider.

Markus Schmitz, member of the pre-development staff at the EMKA Technology Centre, sums up: “With the twist-and-tension lock as a system, we have managed to harmonize convenience, flexibility and compression pressure. Whether swivel handle, sash lock or climate handle – the closing path requires only a 90-degree turn and lift movement instead of the 180 degrees that are common in the market

The system is therefore suitable for all those applications where larger doors and flaps need to be closed with high sealing pressure”.
