Robust mechanics meet intelligent electronics at apra
A long-standing partnership as a driver of innovation
Since the 1980s, apra has been integrating EMKA components – such as locking solutions, hinges and gaskets – into housing and cabinet systems. We are united by a shared commitment to quality, a high degree of vertical integration and continuous development. Today, these solutions are used worldwide across numerous sectors – particularly in sensitive sectors such as medical technology, test engineering and critical infrastructure, for example in data centres.
With the EMI-Lock 2.0, apra and EMKA are combining their respective strengths: we supply the mechanically proven handle platform, whilst apra develops the electronics and software. Within two years, a locking system was developed that is tailored to the requirements of modern server and network cabinets.
The electronic door handle offers a wide range of functions, including two-factor authentication via PIN and RFID, an integrated display, and sensors for temperature, humidity and door status. These are complemented by a servo-motorised opening system, protection class IP54 and an emergency opening mechanism via a half-cylinder.

By combining digital access control with robust mechanics, the EMI-Lock 2.0 meets high security requirements and supports operators in complying with legal requirements relating to critical infrastructure. At the same time, its standardised design enables integration into existing cabinet systems.
Start of series production

Following the successful completion of the development phase, the EMI-Lock 2.0 is now in series production and available on the market. The electronic door handle is already in use in numerous cabinet systems from the apra Group and can also be integrated into many other cabinet systems. The apra Group provides customers with a fully pre-assembled and ready-to-connect solution from a single source – from the cabinet system right through to the integrated EMI-Lock access control. For larger installations or multiple sites, the EMI-Connect management software is also available for the central integration and management of the electronic swing levers.
With the EMI-Lock 2.0, EMKA and the apra Group have jointly developed a future-oriented solution that combines robust mechanics with intelligent electronics and meets the growing demands for security, digitalisation and availability.
