Precision casting production in Mionica

In Serbia, EMKA is expanding its focus beyond steel and embracing future opportunities. The latest investments made by the global market leader at the Mionica site provide evidence for this statement. At this location, state-of-the-art technology is implemented to maintain the highest standards of quality and efficiency.

EMKA has been manufacturing over 400 diverse steel products at its Serbian facility in Mionica since 2015, catering to both its own portfolio and external direct customers. The plant, which was previously under the ownership of the Cimos Group, was involved in manufacturing components for the automotive industry.

EMKA not only acquired the company‘s facilities but also hired its 125 employees. Since that time, the site has consistently grown by investing in plant technology. Today, 179 employees work on site.

On the 64,000 m² production site, of which 10,500 m² are covered, EMKA has not only developed its casting technology but also its mechanical processing and surface finishing of steels and stainless steels.

Over the past few years, there have been expansions in the capacities of grinding processes and electrochemical (galvanic) finishing, among other areas. Steel is cast at temperatures reaching 1,650°C and then undergoes additional refinement through various processes, including thermal treatments like annealing, hardening, or tempering. The amount of processed material in Mionica reached 568 tonnes in 2023 alone.

The growing production volume and the constantly increasing demands in terms of quality, delivery time and costs make further investments in manufacturing technologies necessary. In July of this year, EMKA was able to put two new Haas CNC machines (a lathe and a milling machine) into operation. An automatic system for separating the castings from the cluster is currently being tested at a manufacturer‘s site. This modernisation greatly improves work efficiency and enhances occupational safety simultaneously.

In addition, three new sandblasting systems were acquired. These investments will help decrease the time it takes to set up, shorten production times, and improve quality even more. The planning for a new injection moulding machine for wax blanks is already underway, and additional investments investments are upcoming in the ceramics and casting department as well.

EMKA products made in Serbia are directly shipped to Germany as well as Bosnia and Herzegovina for additional processing. EMKA ensures that its products are distributed to all its sales locations worldwide. The complete in-house production enables the company to act independently of suppliers and third-party providers and to set its own quality standards.

This ensures complete freedom and authority in maintaining product quality, especially within the European market.
